A team calendar for parents who don’t want to install anything

A sports team calendar for parents needs one thing above everything else: every parent can see the schedule and answer without installing anything.

Junto is a shared calendar with RSVP built in. A parent opens a link, types a first name, and taps Going, Maybe or Can’t, no account and no app download.

The coach sees, at a glance, who is coming to Saturday.

The problem with team calendar apps

Spond requires an account and an app for every parent who wants to see the schedule or answer a game invite. TeamSnap, Heja and SportsEngine work the same way: an account and an app install, repeated for every family on the roster.

A team is not one download. It is fifteen to twenty parents, each asked to make an account and install something, usually the week before the first game. Some never finish. The coach ends up texting the ones who didn’t.

How Junto works for a team

The coach or team admin creates a calendar, adds the season’s practices and games as events, and shares one link. A parent opens it, types their child’s or their own first name, and taps Going, Maybe or Can’t. No account, no app.

Each event shows who’s going, so the coach can see the count for Saturday without a group chat thread. A parent can leave their email so they get a reminder before the event, but it is optional. Anyone who wants an event on their phone’s own calendar can pull a .ics file for that one event, no sync required.

The $4.99 unlock for a full roster

Be honest about the number: a real team is 15 or more families, and Junto’s free tier covers private calendars up to 8 members. A full squad will need the unlock.

That unlock is a one-time $4.99 plus tax, per calendar, once. It removes the member limit on that one calendar. There is no season renewal and no subscription: pay once for the team, keep the calendar for as long as you use it.

If the calendar is public instead of private (anyone with the link can view, no invite code), there is no member limit and no charge at all. Most team admins pick private so only rostered families join.

Setting it up for a season

Create a calendar and name it after the team, so the URL and the header are unmistakable (`tryjunto.app/team-name` instead of a random string).

Add the season’s fixtures as events. Use the Active category so practices and games are easy to tell apart from anything else on the calendar.

Share the link and the invite code once, in the parents’ group chat or the first team email. Parents who click the link get the code prefilled and just type a name.

When a family leaves the team, remove them from the member list in settings. When the season ends, the calendar just sits there until next season, or you start a fresh one.

What Junto does not do

Junto is a calendar with RSVP, not a team management platform. It has no team chat, so game-day messages still go in whatever group chat the team already uses.

It has no payments collection, so uniform fees, tournament dues and fundraising still need a separate tool. It has no availability polling for picking a practice time, and no roster management beyond the member list on the calendar. If a team needs those, a dedicated sports app is the better fit; if the only real problem is getting every parent to a schedule without an install, Junto is built for that.

Who this fits

Youth soccer, baseball, swim and any rec league where the roster is parents, not players, and the ask is simple: show up Saturday or don’t. It also fits a single coach running one team, not a club managing dozens.

It does not fit a club that already pays for TeamSnap or SportsEngine across every team and wants one system for the whole organization. Junto is per-calendar, not per-club.

Questions

Do parents need to download an app for a team calendar?

No, not with Junto. A parent opens the calendar link in any browser, types a first name, and taps Going, Maybe or Can’t. Nothing installs, and there is no account to create. Compare that to Spond, TeamSnap or Heja, which all ask every parent for an account and an app before they can answer. Create a team calendar and send the link to find out how fast a roster fills in.

How much does a team calendar cost on Junto?

A private calendar is free for up to 8 members. A full roster of 15 or more families needs the one-time $4.99 plus tax unlock, which removes the member limit for that one Junto calendar, for good. There is no season renewal and no subscription. Public calendars, where anyone with the link can view, have no member limit and stay free either way. Start free, then unlock only if the roster grows past 8.

Is the $4.99 unlock a subscription?

No, it is a one-time payment, charged once per calendar, through Stripe. There is no recurring charge and nothing to cancel next season. If a coach starts a brand new calendar for a new season, that new calendar would need its own unlock if the roster is over 8 members, since the charge is tied to the calendar, not the team name. Junto keeps it simple: pay once for the calendar you’re using.

Can parents RSVP without making an account?

Yes. Typing a first name is the only step. The browser remembers the parent afterward, so they don’t retype it next time they open the link. An email is optional, only used for reminders or to get back in on a new device. Set up a team calendar in Junto and share the link to see the RSVP flow yourself, no signup screen involved.

Can I see who is coming to practice or a game?

Yes. Every event shows who has RSVPed Going, Maybe or Can’t, so a coach can check attendance for Saturday without texting the group chat. This list sits right on the event itself, visible to anyone with calendar access, and it replaces the "who’s coming" thread most teams run by hand. Junto shows the count at a glance, before game day.

Does the calendar sync with Google Calendar or Apple Calendar?

Not automatically. Junto does not have two-way sync with Google or Apple Calendar. What it offers instead is a .ics file download for any single event, which a parent can add to their own calendar app by hand. If full two-way sync across every event is the requirement, this is not the right fit yet; for a link-based team schedule with RSVP, it still covers the job well.

What happens when a family leaves the team partway through the season?

The team admin removes them from the member list in calendar settings, and their access to future events ends there. Junto keeps this manual by design, since a coach usually knows exactly when a family is leaving a squad. There’s no automatic expiry tied to a season, a payment plan, or a renewal date to track.

Can the calendar collect uniform fees or tournament payments from parents?

No, Junto is a calendar with RSVP, not a payments platform, so fee collection still has to happen elsewhere: Venmo, a team fundraising tool, or however the club already handles it. The only payment it processes is the one-time $4.99 unlock for the calendar itself, nothing recurring, nothing tied to fees. Keep fee collection on its existing tool and use this just for the schedule.

Does the calendar replace the team group chat?

No, there’s no team chat feature at all here. Game-day messages, "running 5 minutes late" texts, and general chatter still belong in whatever group chat the team already uses. Its job is narrower: hold the schedule and collect RSVPs. Keep the group chat for talk, and point parents to the Junto link for the actual schedule instead.

Is there a limit on how many events I can add to a season calendar?

No event ceiling here; the member limit only applies to how many people can join a private calendar before the $4.99 unlock. A full season of practices and games can go on one calendar without hitting a wall on event count. Add the whole schedule at once when you set the team up in Junto, fixtures included.

Can I make the team calendar public instead of private?

Yes. A public calendar has no member limit and stays free, and anyone with the link can view it and RSVP with just a name, no invite code needed. Most teams choose private with a code so only rostered families can join, but a public calendar works fine for an open rec league or a drop-in group. Pick the mode that matches how closed your roster needs to be when you set up Junto.

Does a coach need to be technical to set this up?

No. Creating a calendar, naming it after the team, and adding the season’s fixtures takes a few minutes, the same as filling out any online form. There’s no app to configure and no server to manage. Once the link and code go out in the parents’ group chat, the rest runs itself: parents RSVP, the coach checks who’s coming. Junto was built so a non-technical coach can run the whole season alone.
